Residency Advisory
Where property ownership supports residency, and where it does not.
In some jurisdictions property ownership can support eligibility for residency or an investment visa. The qualifying thresholds, the properties that count, the duration of the visa and the rules on including family differ between jurisdictions, and they change.
Most of our clients are moving as well as investing, and the two decisions are often made together. They should not be confused with one another.
What we can tell you
- The position as it currently stands in the market you are considering
- Whether a specific property is likely to qualify, before you commit to it
- How value, ownership structure, financing and stage of construction can affect eligibility
- What is involved in practice, and roughly over what timescale
What we will not do
Northway does not provide immigration advice. Where specialist advice is required we introduce or work alongside appropriately qualified immigration professionals, and we would rather tell you that than give you an answer we are not qualified to give.
We would also say this plainly: eligibility should be confirmed separately rather than assumed, and a property should be a sound purchase on its own terms before any residency benefit is counted. A property bought only for a visa, at a price that does not make sense, is an expensive visa.
FAQs
Common questions
In some jurisdictions, yes. Property ownership may support eligibility for residency or investment visas, but the qualifying thresholds, permitted properties, visa duration and family sponsorship rules differ between jurisdictions and can change. Your Northway advisor can explain the current position for the market you are considering and, where appropriate, introduce an immigration specialist.
No. Eligibility can depend on the jurisdiction, property value, ownership structure, financing, stage of construction and applicable immigration rules. Residency should therefore be considered separately from the investment decision rather than assumed.
Many residency programmes provide options for qualifying family members, but the rules differ by jurisdiction and visa category. Current eligibility should be confirmed before relying on this as part of a purchase decision.
Yes. Many of our clients are moving as well as investing. We can help you understand communities, property choices and the practical considerations surrounding a move. Where specialist advice is required for immigration, tax, finance or company formation, we can coordinate with appropriately qualified professionals.
